Overview

For year three of the mural program our theme was “Passing the Torch” . We continue to push the bar on fostering professional development. As the years progress our returning students are getting older, it was always our intention to incrementally remove ourselves from having full control and empower them to take accountability and action in the pursuit of their artistic careers. With some students collaborating together and others choosing to work alone, fourteen ambitious minds from middle school to college level produced nine heartfelt and unique murals to bless the community of Silverlake.
They all shared the same color palette of paints, our only guideline was that their concept felt personal in some way. From initial design conception to transferring the digital image on the wall using the grid method, students planned their process in advance while mentors provided constructive criticism to prepare them for the unknown variables of the painting process. The program was a comprehensive experience for all the necessary steps to create eye catching and thought provoking public art.
This year we had the great honor of being sponsored by Zibra brushes! All the youth artists received their own 5 piece brush kit along with a generous boost of confidence knowing that a big brand took the time to support them. The quality of the brushes was greatly reflected in their work ethic and finished results.
