Overview
The Amplified Voices mural project on South Pearl Street transformed an abandoned McDonald’s facade into a vibrant mural spanning 12 x 50 feet, embodying “Black Freedom” with a poignant blend of nature, city and heritage. The program engaged young Black students in a creative journey, starting with writing and concept workshops, designed to empower their voices and address the pressing issues of recent community violence in the wake of the George Floyd protests. Each visual element of the mural has been imagined by the students, with the help of AV mentors they were able to make a necessary symbol of healing for the entire community. This artistic endeavor was more than beautification; it served as art therapy amidst social unrest, prioritizing youth perspectives in public art.
