In year two of our mural program, we brought the beauty of Ecuador to Los Angeles, where students aged 12-17 channeled their artistic talents to make a mural with a powerful message. Over the course of seven days, these young artists worked to raise awareness and funds for Tangan, one of Ecuador’s most biodiverse regions, now under threat from deforestation. The program was designed to help students discover their artistic voices and learn essential paint techniques, all while creating art that symbolizes positive change.
The mural features some of Ecuador’s diverse bird population, endangered by habitat loss, Don Ramiero and his wife Mariana, dedicated stewards protecting this region of the Tangan forest. Through this art, we’re not only raising awareness but funds to directly support reforestation efforts on their land, helping plant hundreds of native trees to restore this critical habitat. This year's funds allowed for the purchase of two donkeys and necessary medical supplies. Each brushstroke in this mural reflects the students' growth, their deepening social responsibility, and our collective mission to protect both people and nature. Through art, we aim to inspire change, linking local communities to global environmental causes for a brighter future.
A highlight of the program was an exclusive visit to OBEY studios, where the students had a private tour and discussion with renowned muralist and art visionary Shepard Fairey followed by a printmaking workshop. This amazing opportunity left them brimming with inspiration and deepened their connection to viable art careers. Reinforcing our commitment to connecting students with leading industry professionals and local artists.
